Whether you’re an avid proponent of New Year’s resolutions, or you’re the type of person who rolls their eyes when they hear the phrase, we know that you have goals that you would like to achieve, and the new year is a wonderful time to start fresh. However, it can be incredibly difficult to just jump right into a new lifestyle, especially after you spend a couple of weeks lavishing in the holidays.

We want to help! Below are some tips on keeping your resolutions and a few local spots to help you along the way!

  1. Start broad

The prospect of the new-and-improved-you can be so exciting, but it can also be a bit overwhelming, especially if your goals are specific and lofty. Your resolution might be to lose 50 pounds, for example. It might be tempting to hit the gym during the first part of January and aim to work out an hour every day, but that kind of behavior will burn you out quickly.

Instead, plan broader long-term goals. For example, you may want to make your resolution something like making your health a priority or adding a new wellness practice, instead. By doing this, you give yourself a bit more flexibility and focus on a bigger, broader goal. Here are some of our favorite local wellness spots to get you started out:

If you’re ready to take your workout to the next level, try Destin Hot Yoga.

If you want to improve your mental health, try Float Brothers Float Spa.

If you want to relax more, try Surfside Spa.

If you want to eat healthier, try the Local Market or Roast’d Yoga Bar.

  1. Be realistic about your number of resolutions

Along these lines, it’s also helpful to be realistic when setting goals. You’re absolutely not going to go to sleep one night and wake up as a whole new person the next. Instead, our suggestion is to pick the one resolution that you think may be able to lead you into the other resolutions gradually and start with that one. For example, say your three resolutions are to:

– Start getting up early

– Start journaling

– Start jogging

Journaling and jogging are tasks that take away time in your life, whether it be for good or not. But, getting up every day gives you more time in the day to accomplish tasks. If you can become accustomed to waking up early on a daily basis, you might be able to then add jogging or journaling to your morning routine!

  1. Start anytime!

If you’re someone who loves the symbolism of the new year to make changes to your life, we want to suggest using the first month of the new year as the transitional period. But that doesn’t mean you can’t start a new goal or resolution any time of the year. If you’ve missed the Jan. 1 resolution start date, that doesn’t mean your goals for the year are over. Instead, pick a date to start your new goals. Maybe the first of every month or the first Monday of each week. This will help you keep on track without feeling like you have one chance to get things right.

We hope your new year is off to a great start. Whether you’re busing focusing on your health or getting a goal about cleaning, organizing or being more mindful, we think you’re doing great! And as always, PMI Destin-30A is here to help with your property management or to guide you to the surrounding Destin area! Happy New Year!
